Ann Bennett

Ann Bennett was born in a small village in Northamptonshire, UK, on the same street as William Carey, one of the first Baptist missionaries to work in India in the early nineteenth century. She read law at Cambridge, but was always inspired by history, travel, and great stories. Her first book, A Daughter’s Quest, originally published as Bamboo Heart, was written after researching her father’s experience as a prisoner of war on the Thai-Burma Railway. The Planter’s Wife (originally Bamboo Island), A Daughter’s Promise, The Homecoming (formerly Bamboo Road), The Tea Planter’s Club, and The Amulet are also about the war in Southeast Asia. She has traveled to India and Southeast Asia many times. Ann is married with three grown-up sons and works as a lawyer.
